Dear Parents and Carers,
Unbelievably, we are already almost half way through our Summer term and what a term it
has been!
Glorious weather has meant that we have been able to use our field and the pool almost
without interruption. Reception and Key Stage One children have been learning to swim
this term and are already demonstrating fantastic water safety skills and confidence. We
are so lucky to have this incredible facility on our site!
We celebrated the 80th Anniversary of VE day by having a whole school picnic out on the
playground - chillier than it had been but a celebration nonetheless! We were also
delighted to welcome Celia Hicks into school to speak to the older children about what life
was like during the war - they were gripped!
I felt very proud to show around some of our Directors from our Ethos, Learning and
Standards committee last week. They commented on how well behaved the children were
and what a glorious school we have - I thoroughly agreed with them!
This is always a testing time for our Year 6 children (pun fully intended) as they sit their
SATs exams in maths and reading. Although these have little import for the children
themselves, they are very formal and are a measure for how well they have learned what
they have been taught, and can become quite stressful for some children. I am happy to say
that all the children took the exams in their stride, staying calm and confident and I am
certain they will all do themselves proud!
I would like to thank all the parents who stayed at school on Friday evening for our Parent
Power event and PTFA BBQ. Anna Edwards did us proud with the sausages and burgers
and we are now well on our way to making the previous ‘grot spot’ into a usable Boules
Court. Thank you to all parents who worked so hard and gave up their evening to support
this.
Half term is nearly upon us and I do hope that you all have a wonderful break - don’t forget
this starts on Friday 23rd as a non-pupil day. Primary Sports and Education will be hosting
a holiday club on Tuesday and Wednesday of half term which looks really fun. More
information is at the end of this letter.

Here are this week’s Times Table Rockstars, Superstars! We would like everyone to celebrate our top scorers and those who have made amazing efforts. All staff have been so impressed with children’s enthusiasm and determination to improve their times tables knowledge. If your child’s name is mentioned in the newsletter, then there is a 3 house point reward! Your child has a Times Table Rockstar login, which can be used at home too.
Good luck everyone!
Fieldmice and Hedgehog Class
We have been very busy with our learning. In English, we have really enjoyed writing witches spell’s with some horrible ingredients! In maths we have been continuing to learn about composition and have really cemented those number bonds to 10. In science we have been learning about materials and waterproofness. In art we made wonderful marbling pictures using chalk and water and also used Beebots to make computerised art.
Squirrel Class
This half-term it has been wonderful to see the excitement in Squirrel class as we completed our Stick Transformation Project by creating our own treehouses. They make a fantastic display down the KS1 corridor which many visitors have commented on. All the children worked hard to manipulate materials to create platforms, slides, flags, swings, zip lines, secret dens and much more on their own treehouses. They gave new life and interest to fallen branches. Many thanks to all those who donated junk modelling materials, this ensured everyone had a great choice to see their designs come to life. In Maths we have been learning about measurements using centimetres and metres and enjoyed exploring our classroom with various rulers. We have also focussed on finding the midpoint between 0-10, 0-20 and 10-20 to support us with comparisons of objects to investigate whether they are taller/longer or shorter.
Fox Class
It’s been another exciting couple of weeks in Fox class. In maths, we have been carrying on our work with fractions. The children have been comparing fractions with different denominators, which has sparked some fantastic discussions. You could support this learning at home by cutting up various foods into fractions, allowing the children to see real-life examples in action! In writing, the children have been busy crafting third-person narrative descriptions about a thrilling chase between a predator and its prey. Their imaginations have been running wild, and it’s been wonderful to see them so engaged in their stories.Science has also been a hands-on experience, as the children were very excited to discover which materials insulate and which conduct electricity. Finally, in History, we have been looking at what life was like in ancient Rome while also recapping what life was like in Celtic Britain.
Otter Class
We hit the ground running this half term, continuing our work on decimals, moving onto money this week. In English, we have been increasing our knowledge and application of technical language, editing to check for meaning and to make sure that we are making the best choices. In History, we have carried on exploring the impact of the Roman arrival in Britain, investigating the changes that they brought to the Iron Age communities there. In Science we have thoroughly enjoyed using a brilliant website to build successful (and not so successful) electrical circuits prior to building our own real circuits using kits next week.
Stag Class
This week we have seen an incredible effort given by our Year 6 students who have now finished their SATs. I am so proud of how hard they worked in the build-up to these tests and how they conducted themselves during them: every student worked right up until the final seconds of every test and gave their all - we really couldn’t ask for more. The Year 5s made the most of a quiet classroom by studying the Anglo Saxons, researching who they were, how they ruled the country and what happened to them at the end.
Hedgehog
Skyla in Hedgehog Class
Skyla for the character virtues of motivation and confidence.
Skyla has been showing excellent listening skills in the swimming pool, following instructions and keeping herself and others safe. Well done Skyla!
Rafe in Hedgehog Class
Rafe really wowed us in maths this week with his understanding of maths and his ability to explain his thinking. Rafe also did some independent writing which is big progress! Well done Rafe, keep it up!
Squirrels
Sidney in Squirrel Class
For demonstrating the character virtue of motivation. We have noticed that Sidney’s confidence has improved greatly in phonics. During a visit this week staff noticed how Sidney was putting his hand up and confidently answering questions—it is lovely to hear his voice contributing to our class activities. In art Sidney had exceptional ideas in the design and making phase of our Stick Transformation Project. He used his problem solving skills to manipulate materials and join them to create a tree house.
Jasper in Squirrel Class
For showing the character virtues of critical thinking and reflection. Jasper impressed us this week with his reading level of 8 years and 3 months. He has demonstrated fantastic knowledge of the wider world in Science clearly from his love of reading and fact finding. He posed two thought provoking questions for us to investigate “How do axolotls regrow their body parts?” and “How do monkeys have more hair than us?”. Jasper is an excellent role model in Squirrel class, always ready to learn, super polite and rises to every challenge.
Foxes
Joseph in Fox class
For demonstrating the character virtue of determination. No matter the task at hand, he approaches each challenge with unwavering effort and enthusiasm. His hard work is truly inspiring, especially as he diligently focuses on improving his handwriting. Joseph's perseverance is commendable, and it is evident that he strives to produce his very best in everything he undertakes.
Sophie in Fox class
Sophie for showing remarkable growth in her confidence by regularly putting her hand up to share her brilliant ideas. She is putting in a tremendous amount of effort to present her work beautifully in her book, something she has been working hard to improve.
Otters
Rose in Otter Class
For her boundless good humour, consistent efforts with excellent presentation and accuracy in her written work, for kindness to others and generally setting such an superb example to the younger children in the school. Rose, you are a star!
Annabelle in Otter Class
Annabelle has been turbo-charged this week, particularly attacking her TT Rockstars with ferocious determination! She has been making huge efforts to improve her handwriting and general presentation and is doing it all with great good humour and positivity. Keep it up Annabelle - I am incredibly proud of you!
Stags
Fennick in Stag Class
Fennick has had a fantastic couple of months honing his already good maths and English skills as much as he can. He has set a fantastic example for anyone in how to learn well: find your weaknesses and turn them into strengths. This takes great humility and determination to do well and Fennick has done just that.
Jack in Stag Class
Jack received his award for showing the values of cooperation and friendliness. As the year has progressed, Jack has grown in confidence in his own academic abilities and is now much more certain in his work, showing more accuracy and ambition in everything that he does. On top of this, Jack is showing his caring side by helping those around him to succeed as well, making him a real asset to our class and a truly wonderful friend to have.
Well done Everybody
